Reporter Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has shared details on Apple’s upcoming iOS 18, which is expected to make its debut at the Worldwide WWDC conference next month.
Gurman claims that iOS 18 will have sophisticated AI features similar to those found on Android smartphones. These will include AI-powered applications like voice memo transcription, improved photo editing features, and article summarization, among others.
Gurman also mentioned enhancements to Siri’s conversational skills in the next iOS release. Apple wants to improve the efficiency and naturalness of Siri’s interactions by adding functionalities that are meant to support users in their day-to-day activities by means of what they call “proactive intelligence.”
This project aims to improve current capabilities like app suggestions and automatic calendar updates by adding features like voice note transcription, brief news item summaries, and notification summarization.
Gurman made it clear that Apple wants to give on-device AI processing top priority in order to improve performance and customer privacy. Even with its utilisation of cloud services hosted in data centres furnished with top-tier Apple silicon processors, Apple continues to prioritise on-device processing optimisation. Contrary to earlier rumours, Apple is not allegedly planning to include a ChatGPT-style chatbot in its future AI capabilities, unlike other competitors. Apple officials have admitted that the business is working internally to improve its reputation in the AI space.
There’s a lot of excitement about Apple’s big AI initiative, which is anticipated to be unveiled at WWDC starting on June 10 with sneak peeks of its next software releases.
