The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) until further notice as a result of one more player testing positive for coronavirus.
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has stated all official authorities and council members have mutually made the decision after consulting with all investors together with the franchises and presenters, approving that the IPL should be postponed for now.
“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect, read a review from the BCCI.
“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind,” it further mentioned.
The BCCI stated these are “difficult times” for India and the board had taken the decision to postpone the league and send all players back to their homes and loved ones.
The most recent player to test positive for the virus is Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Wriddhiman Saha, whose positive results came in just today.
