The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration announced a decision to prohibit the firing of stray dogs with gunshots in Islamabad.

Yesterday the Chief Commissioner and CDA Chairman, Amer Ali Ahmed, directed a meeting at the CDA headquarters to talk over the resolutions to monitor the population of stray dogs without the need to shoot them.

The attendees of the meeting included the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamza Shafqaat, Advocate Owais Awan, CDA officers, representatives of non-profit organizations, and animal devotees.

DC Islamabad said that the shooting of stray dogs has never been allowed, and it has been made certain that the municipal by-laws will be modified to eradicate the clause that allows the shooting.

Therefore, the city managers will team up with the animal welfare organizations like Rabies Free Pakistan, Animals Birth Control, and activists to give vaccination shots to stray dogs so that Islamabad could be rabies free.

According toAdvocate Awan “Today’s meeting remained very positive as the shooting of dogs has been banned. It is good to see that the government is taking this issue seriously. After two weeks, another meeting will be held to chalk out further strategies”
