In addition to James’s current duties, the board of directors of Daraz Group has named Lazada Group CEO James Dong to succeed Bjarke Mikkelsen as interim CEO of the company.
The date of the appointment is January 24, 2024.
The outgoing CEO was recognised for his work in an official statement. “For almost ten years, Blake has played a crucial role in the development and expansion of the Daraz Group. As the company’s creator, he guided it from its early stages as a one-market online retailer to a comprehensive marketplace that serves five South Asian markets, lowering the cost of e-commerce via the use of economical payment methods and a logistical infrastructure.
“The Board respects Bjarke’s decision to step down for personal reasons and would like to convey its sincere gratitude for his contributions to Daraz Group.” It continued, “Bjarke will always remain a part of the Daraz family.
Sister firms Daraz and Lazada, located in South and Southeast Asia, respectively, have long benefited from close cooperation and synergies. According to the announcement, James’ appointment as interim CEO is intended to assist the company’s long-term, healthy development. The Board hopes that James will guide the two companies towards further mutual learning and cooperation.
“Building Daraz into a company strong enough to endure in our markets over the long run has always been my North Star. For this reason, I’m turning over the reins to my dear friend James Dong, the company’s next generation of leaders, who will assume the role of acting CEO and seek to further integrate Daraz with our sister firms.
We will have a more concentrated strategy and business plan with this structure, and I’m sure that it’s the ideal one for Daraz to guarantee our long-term success. said Bjarke Mikkelsen, the Daraz Group’s CEO. I’m going to take a break from blogging to spend time with my family and help my amazing wife pursue her new job.
In 2015, Daraz Group was established. Since then, it has developed into South Asia’s top e-commerce platform, helping hundreds of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses expand their operations via the use of technology.
