The cost of solar power installations in Pakistan has surged sharply this month, affecting prices of systems ranging from 5 to 15 kilowatts.

Industry sources confirmed a notable increase in on-grid system prices, while those opting for hybrid setups must now contend with added battery costs.

The price hike comes as solar power remains a popular alternative amid rising electricity costs, with consumers across the country increasingly considering renewable energy options to counter high utility bills. However, the recent surge is likely to impact affordability.

Revised prices in November 2024

According to recent reports, the price of a standard 5 kW solar system has now risen by Rs100,000, setting the new cost at Rs750,000. Similarly, a 7 kW system has experienced an increase of Rs150,000, now priced at Rs850,000.

Larger installations have also seen significant price jumps. A 10 kW system is now available at Rs1,150,000 following a Rs200,000 increase, while the 12 kW system has risen by Rs150,000 to reach Rs1,250,000. The price of a 15 kW system has settled at Rs1,400,000, reflecting a Rs150,000 hike.

Impact on consumers and solar industry

Analysts suggest that the surge in prices could delay many households and businesses from transitioning to solar energy. While Pakistan has encouraged solar power adoption to alleviate the burden on its power grid, rising equipment and battery costs may present new challenges.
