Due to the persistently high levels of pollution, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has mandated that all educational institutions remain closed on Saturdays until the end of January.

The deputy commissioner and others were ordered by the court to send out notices closing colleges, universities, and schools on Saturdays.

Regarding the petitions filed to address the severe pollution enveloping Lahore and other parts of Punjab, Justice Shahid Karim gave a written ruling.

According to the written directive, the Punjab government is moving towards allowing employees to work from home two days a week.

Additionally, a portion of the government’s notification about the closure of gyms was suspended by the court. It clarified that the coronavirus-related provisions under which this notification was issued are no longer applicable.

The environmental agency was also ordered by the court to discipline personnel who failed to take action against smog.

Mohsin Naqvi, the interim chief minister of Punjab, said on Sunday that mask wear will be required for a week throughout the state.

In a notification issued on Sunday afternoon, Naqvi said that that decision was taken for all smog-affected districts of Punjab in view of the deteriorating air quality.
