Malaysia has declared that it will be imposing a travel ban on Pakistan beginning from May 8 as Islamabad faces a constant surge in covid cases.

Based on a notification given out by the Malaysian immigration officials, people belonging from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal will not be permitted to travel to Malaysia from tomorrow.

Senior Malaysia Minister Ismail Yakoob has revealed the factors related to the ban.

“The travel restriction imposed on citizens of these countries involved all categories holding long-term social visit passes, business travellers and for social visits,” he said.

The minister disclosed that there were some exemptions to the ban as well.

“Exemptions are, however, given to holders of diplomatic passports and officials as stated in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961. This category will be considered to enter Malaysia using the existing standard operating procedures,” he further mentioned.

After the announcement of the travel ban, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight did not operate in order to fly to Malaysia.

The national flag carrier takes one weekly aircraft to Malaysia.

Previous month, Malaysia had imposed a travel ban on India as well, as the country fights to handle the worsening pandemic situation.
