An individual by the name of Chand Mian was detained in Karachi for intentionally inflicting severe burns on his 18-month-old daughter, Faiza, in an agonising effort to gain sympathy and raise his beggarly income. The shocking incident was made public after Faiza’s mother’s maternal uncle complained, which resulted in the arrest of the offender.
The upsetting incident happened when Mian carried young Faiza while beseeching on the streets. Later that night, she was discovered dead with burn wounds all over. She was rushed to the hospital, but despite urgent attempts to save her, she soon passed away from her wounds.
An investigation by a police surgeon revealed a disturbing pattern of long-term child maltreatment and neglect. Faiza’s tiny body bore numerous burns and showed signs of malnourishment. It is believed that Mian, who has suffered from drug addiction, set his daughter on fire in the Korangi region on purpose.
Sadly, the whole family was engaged in the activity of begging, frequently accompanying Faiza to different Korangi areas. Sabiha Bano, the mother of Faiza, initially tried to treat her daughter’s wounds but eventually contacted the police and reported Mian’s heinous deeds. The complainant also charged Mian with forcing his wife to beg, which led her to flee to her mother’s house in an attempt to stop the abuse.
