Monthly stipend to be given to transgender persons by Government

It has now been decided that stipend to be paid to the Transgender individuals in Punjab by the government.

The development is included in the provincial government’s programme under the Punjab Social Protection Authority.

Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has revealed the briefings regarding the programme for transgender persons during a press conference in Lahore just yesterday.

Punjab Social Protection Authority Vice Chairperson Jamal Nasir Cheema was also present there with her.

The current government is giving precedence to less privileged divisions of society in all its schemes, said Dr Awan.

“Transgender people are a part of society and will be given a monthly stipend”, she said.

Dr Firdous stated that the ‘Ehsaas Punjab Masawaat Programme’ was a exclusive programme with which transgender persons were being assisted.

The SACM said that with this programme, disabled transgender persons included in the age bracket of 18 and 40 were being alloted Rs2,000 per month, while transgender people more than40 years of age were being given Rs3,000 monthly
