The Sindh Assembly was informed by officials that 54% of villages do not have a supply of electricity during a session. Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, the minister of Sindh’s energy, revealed this in response to inquiries from associated lawmakers.

Syed Abdul Rasheed, an opposition member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), demanded an explanation from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which has been in power for the past 15 years.

According to Minister Shaikh, the Sindh government wants to provide electricity in every village. He claimed that during the PPP’s tenure, power was given to all 8,572 electrified villages.

Nevertheless, he also emphasised the significance of carrying out an in-depth study to precisely identify the number of villages without electricity and stated that the Board of Revenue was recently approached to help with this initiative.

Additionally, Shaikh informed lawmakers that the government of Sindh has been bringing electricity to remote areas that aren’t connected to the grid by using solar energy. He expressed confidence that the province’s power supply situation would significantly improve in the upcoming year.

He pointed out the use of solar energy in isolated regions and promised that, if PPP were to win a second term, it would keep working to power off-grid villages. He also mentioned how the national grid could potentially be used to supply the entire nation with electricity from the Thar coal reserves.
