Intense smog continues to disrupt travel across Punjab, causing motorway closures and dangerous driving conditions.
To ensure safe travel, the Motorway Police have closed several routes affected by the dense smog. These include Motorway M2 from Lahore to Sheikhupura, Motorway M3 from Lahore to Jaranwala, and Motorway M4 from Gojra to Abdul Hakeem.
A Motorway Police spokesperson advised travellers to avoid nighttime and travel during daylight hours when visibility is clearer. Drivers are also urged to use front and rear fog lights for enhanced safety.
“Motorways are closed to ensure safe travel,” the spokesperson added.
Also on Friday morning, thick fog and smog led to multiple vehicle collisions near the Hiran Minar Interchange in Sheikhupura, resulting in five injuries.
According to rescue officials, the accidents were triggered by drastically reduced visibility, with multiple vehicles colliding along the highway and injuring five people. All the injured were shifted to hospital for first aid, while many vehicles were also damaged.
Rescue 1122 and Motorway Police are carrying out rescue operations at the spot. The accident has halted traffic flow along the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway near Hiran Minar Interchange.
The Motorway Police says the road will be reopened for traffic soon after the rescue operations are completed.
