Federal Minister for Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs and States and Frontier Regions, Amir Muqam on Sunday reaffirmed the incumbent government’s commitment to economic recovery in the country.
Expressing his thoughts in Karachi, Muqam praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, stating that under his guidance, the country was saved from default within 16 months.
In a recent statement, Muqam highlighted the improvements in the country’s economy, citing the consistent rise in foreign exchange reserves and the reduction of inflation.
“The country was heading towards default due to a dictator’s policies, but Shahbaz Sharif saved Pakistan,” Muqam stated, adding that the prime minister had worked tirelessly to resolve the nation’s economic challenges.
Muqam pointed out that despite facing numerous challenges during the tenure of the ruling government, it had successfully reduced inflation from a peak of 40% to only 2-3%. “Shahbaz Sharif worked day and night to alleviate the suffering caused by inflation, and the public is now seeing the positive results,” he noted.
Furthermore, the federal minister acknowledged the contributions of the Army Chief, thanking him for his role in the country’s stability.
Muqam also addressed the internal struggles within the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), revealing that PTI members are at odds with one another. “PTI leaders are fighting amongst themselves, while the country needs stability and progress,” he added.
In a related matter, Muqam expressed concern over the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the PTI-led government is struggling to manage the province. He mentioned that the wife of PTI’s founder desires to implement the “Buzdar system” in KP. However, the province’s current Chief Minister is unable to focus on the province’s needs due to the ongoing challenges within the party.
Muqam also discussed the improving state of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which had been blacklisted in Europe but has now resumed its flight operations to the continent.
He further mentioned that the country’s export sector has grown, and remittances from overseas Pakistanis have risen by 25% this year.
The federal minister reiterated that the government is focused on the country’s economic recovery, with significant reductions in the interest rate to 12% and plans to lower it further to a single digit.
“This is the result of the hard work of the government and its allies,” he said.
