The absolute grading system has been eliminated from the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSS) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) levels of examination by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE).

The official statement claims that the previous system of absolute marking has been changed with one that uses grades, GPAs, and CGPAs to publish results.

The action aims to combat the competitive culture among students. SSC part-I and HSSC part-I will use the new grading system starting this school year.

The latest grading system for SSC part II and HSSC part II will be implemented in 2024. Results will initially be reported in terms of absolute marks, grades, and GPA. Starting in 2025, only grades, GPAs, and CGPAs will be used to publish the results.

For the highest mark of 95-100%, the GPA would be 5 with the description as Exceptional. For marks below 40%, the GPA would be 0 with the description as unsatisfactory. Similarly, For marks in between, different descriptors and GPA would be used.
