On October 17, 2023, a special court stated that PTI Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his successor had been indicted in a cypher case.
After hearing the case in Adiala Jail, Session Judge Abu Alhasnaat made the decision to file charges against the senior PTI officials. During the hearing on Monday, Imran Khan and the former foreign minister were presented before the court that had been set up in Adiala Jail.
Challans were formally given to Mr. Khan and Shah Mahmood in the meantime. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team, attorney Salman Safdar, special prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi, and investigation officer were present at the court hearing.
Following brief remarks, the case was adjourned by the special court until October 17.
Only a small number of PTI solicitors were permitted to visit Adiala Jail for today’s hearing in order to hear the case against Chairman PTI.
Khan, 71, is involved in over 150 cases, one of which involves the disclosure of national secrets. The complaint was filed under the Official Secrets Act after the PTI head was accused by officials of disclosing information from a secret code created by Pakistan’s envoy to Washington.
The populist politician was imprisoned in connection with the Toshakhana affair for more than two months. On August 29, the IHC revoked his prison term, but he was already in custody for the cypher case and could not be released.
