National assembly has finally approved the maternity and paternity bill on tuesday acccording the parents can have paid matenrity/paternity leaves.
Reportedly, the bill will only be valid to the public and private sector establishments of the federal capital territory.
This bill has been introduced by Shazia Marri, PPP lawmaker.
During January this year, senate had approved this maternity leave bill.
The previous version of the bill was a bit different. According to that, the mother ad father were entitled to 6 months and 3 months of maternity and paternity leaves.
The leaves according to the bill will be allotted in the following manner:
- On the birth of first child: 6 months paid leave for mother whereas one month for the father
- On the birth of second child: the mother will receive 4 months paid leave while the father will receive it for 1 months
- On the birth of third child: the mother will be entitled to three months whereas the father will be to one month leave.
