On Monday, the 10–15% price cut in fares of freight trains was announced by the minister of railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique. The declaration was made in Lahore at a press conference in which the minister also unveiled the 100-day plan for Pakistan Railway.
According to the plan, new 12,500-ton-capacity cargo trains will be introduced between Peshawar and Karachi.
Minister Rafique also revealed that the Karakoram Express and Karachi Express will receive an upgrade by the June end, giving passengers excellent travel experiences that are similar to those offered by the Green Line.
Additionally, he discussed ideas for special Eid trains, summertime seasonal trains, and using railway land for businesses. The cabinet has received proposals for this, and approval is anticipated shortly.
In order to cut down on electricity costs, the minister highlighted that solar panels will soon be installed at terminals, stations, office towers, and headquarters. The project is presently underway, and an announcement is anticipated soon.
The railway minister also stated that the Hirok bridge is anticipated to be finished by April 15 and that efforts are being made to have the Sibi-Harnai section operational by the end of the fiscal year.
