Less than ten days have passed since the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup general ticket sales began, and US media sources have indicated that tickets are already starting to appear quickly on resale sites like StubHub and SeatGeek.
The cost of these tickets is on par with that of premium athletic events like the NBA or Major League Baseball.
Resale values for sold-out games, like June 9’s India vs. Pakistan in New York and June 15’s India vs. Canada in Lauderhill, are skyrocketing to double or even treble their initial face value.
The startling increase in cost for VIP seats to the Pakistan vs. India match is especially notable; each ticket is now priced at more than $40,000. The entire cost, including additional fees, is more than $50,000. For this match, the cheapest ticket on StubHub is $1,259, but on SeatGeek, the price goes up to over $175,000.
The management committee is working hard, but a lot of fans are still not able to get tickets for the games they want to see because of the high demand.
The tournament director, Fawwaz Baksh, has accepted the harsh fact that not every candidate will be able to secure a ticket, emphasizing the logistical difficulty of meeting everyone’s demands.
For some matches, Baksh is still hopeful that more tickets might become available if sponsors and other stakeholders return tickets to the pool.
In light of the intense demand, he counsels potential attendees to keep a close eye on the ticket portal in case there are any chances to obtain tickets for their desired matches.
This hypothetical situation highlights the enormous interest in and excitement around the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, solidifying its position as one of the most sought-after athletic events in the world.
