On Friday, the administrators of the Attock prison defended their choice to deny PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s request to speak on the phone with his sons while in custody.
A suspect booked under the Official Secrets Act is not allowed to speak on the phone, jail officials told the court hearing the case against the former prime minister.
They took this stance in response to the former premier’s petition for contempt of court, which he filed after being denied the chance to call Sulaiman and Qasim.
The jai superintendent informed Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain that he had not disobeyed any court orders. He cited the Prisoners Act of 1978, which prohibits inmates from dialling international numbers.
The judge then instructed the jailer to present his arguments on September 18.
Since his arrest on August 5 following his conviction in the Toshakhana case by a trial court, Khan has been held in the Attock jail.
The FIA authorities detained him in the cypher case and are holding him in judicial custody until September 26 after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his sentence.
The special court last month granted his request to speak with his sons on the phone.
Khan filed a contempt complaint against the superintendent of the Attock jail earlier this week, alleging that the person had disobeyed court orders by not setting up a phone call between Khan and his sons.
