The Punjab provincial government has launched a plan to give people with impairments inexpensive travel cards.
With these cards, people may get considerable discounts of up to 50% off public transport tickets.
Presented in compliance with the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act, the initiative aims to improve public transport accessibility for people with disabilities.
All disabled individuals who have a government-issued disability certificate that has been formally approved are eligible for the travel card programme.
Applications for the credential can be submitted by interested parties to the Deputy Director of Social Welfare offices in their respective districts.
When the temporary provincial government announced free travel for seniors and students on the Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus Service, and Speedo Bus Service last year, it made headlines.
Nevertheless, the provincial government decided to stop offering this service right before winter break.
Mohsin Naqvi, the acting chief minister, recently issued orders to bring back the free travel clause on significant public transit projects.
Up to the start of the summer vacation, students in the twelfth grade are eligible for free travel on all Metro buses and the Orange Line train.
