Ramadan is expected to begin around March 10, while matriculation examinations in Punjab, the most populous province of the country, are scheduled to begin on March 1. This has left officials and students in a state of confusion.

The Punjab Education Board was adamantly opposed by the authorities when students and representatives of the All Pakistan Private Schools Association asked for a postponement of the SSC (matriculation) examinations till 2024.

The Punjab Boards said that the Matric exams will go forward according to schedule.

The president of the All Pakistan Private Schools Association had already requested a postponement of the examinations due to the prolonged winter break and pupils’ lost study time.

Nonetheless, the school board stated unequivocally that there will be no timetable modifications or test delays.

A provisional schedule was previously released by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) in Lahore.

However, the KP government postponed the annual SSC 9th and 10th grade tests by more than a month. It was initially set to begin on March 14.

Parents and students who were concerned about the tests falling during Ramadan, the month when Muslims visit mosques and spend long hours praying, asked for the exams to be postponed.
