With the release of the Galaxy S23 FE, a replacement for the S21 FE from the previous year, Samsung has formally abandoned the S22 FE. Unfortunately, it falls short of the flagship S23 models or even devices like the S22+.
Although the price has not yet been disclosed, we already know that it will be less than the standard S23 phone.
Display and Design
The flat 6.4′′ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with 1080p HD and a configurable 60–120Hz refresh rate to conserve battery life is exactly what was expected for the display.
The phone is bigger and heavier than its predecessor in terms of size, weighing 209g (vs. 177g). Notably, the phone’s body and internal parts are made from recycled materials such as PET bottles, water barrels, fishing nets, and pre- and post-consumer glass, aluminium, and plastic. Additionally, IP68 offers dust and water resistance.
Hardware and software
Due to the older silicon, Samsung is keeping relatively mum regarding the chipset, merely claiming “Advanced 4nm Processing.” We do know that depending on where you are, you can choose between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200.
It may not be as good as the 2023 phones’ specialised “for Galaxy” CPUs, but it still offers a significant improvement over the Snapdragon 888/Exynos 2100 featured in the S21 FE.
This year, 8 GB of RAM is included in the base configuration instead of the previous 6 GB. Even though you are limited to 8 GB, this meets the requirements of the S23 and S23+. There are only two storage options: 128 GB or 256 GB, and there is no expansion slot.
Cameras
The camera now has a 50MP sensor, which is a significant improvement over the original 12MP sensor. The S23 FE still falls short of the S23 and even the S22 phones, despite this improvement, particularly in terms of its lower-resolution ultrawide (10MP, 123°) and telephoto (8MP, 3x) cameras.
In addition, the selfie camera’s resolution reduces to 10 MP after two generations of the FE models’ 32 MP sensors.
Pricing and battery
This new model’s battery capacity remains at 4,500 mAh while being slightly thicker than its predecessor. Wireless charging is also enabled, while wired charging continues to operate at 25W, offering a 0–50% charge in under 30 minutes.
Information on pricing and availability has not yet been disclosed.
