Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has shared the challenges she faced being a working mother during an interview with NDTV.
She stated that she the first time she held her son was after nine days due to visa problems and COVID-19 restrictions.
She revealed she experienced some major issued in obtaining a visa for England.
“Even till the last moment, we weren’t being allowed to board the plane. The plane was leaving in five minutes and there was an issue with the visa. It was really dramatic.”
“I think being an athlete in these times or any career is tough enough. But being a mother who has to travel from week to week with a toddler or with a young daughter is definitely not easy. And it’s got its own set of challenges,” she further added.
The six-time Grand Slam winner was pleased to be there in Wimbledon and said that after all, being there was the most important thing at that time.
She thanked the Indian Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju, for being her support and assisting her through the entire course.
She also expressed acknowledgment for all the people who were there to support her to get her to England, calling it “collective effort.”
“I think that’s what it is all about. It takes that team effort for great things to happen.”
