The Sutlej River flooded heavily on Friday, flooding a number of communities in Arifwala, Bahawalanagar, and Chishtian. The river belt of Lodhran is now also at risk of flooding.
The rapid increase in water flow at the Melsi Syphon point of the Sutlej River is expected to have an impact on as many as 40 villages and hundreds of settlements.
Due to the flooding, the administration has been closed for 24 hours, while the education department has extended the holidays in the flood-affected areas indefinitely.
People from numerous river belt settlements have been relocated to safer areas in Bahawalpur. Due to the rise in water levels in Borewala, a number of river banks were damaged.
Following the rise in the Indus River’s water level, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert.
The Indus and Sutlej rivers are experiencing flooding, according to the authority, and residents should refrain from sightseeing and taking baths in rivers and streams.
According to the PDMA, there has been a high flood at the Head Islam of the Sutlej River and a medium flood level at Sulaimanki and Ganda Singh.
