Pat Cummins, the victor of the World Cup, has been named the 2023 Sir Garfield Sobers ICC Cricketer of the Year. The Australian captain was up against some of the best in the game, including Travis Head, Ravin Rachindra of New Zealand, and Virat Kohli of India.

In 2023, Cummins won both the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup and the ICC Test Championship. With 24 wickets in 24 games and 422 runs at bat in all forms, the incredibly gifted all-rounder led his club from the front.

Following a crushing loss to India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series earlier in the year, Pat Cummins turned around the Australian team and thrashed them by an overwhelming 209 runs in the World Test Championship Final.

In the summer of 2023, the Kangaroos went on to defend “The Ashes” series against England. By the end of the fifth test, both teams were knotted at 2-2, setting up a historic series that concluded in a draw.

Australia, powered by Cummins, won their fifth ODI World Cup, proving they are the true comeback kings on the grandest stage. After faltering early in the season with two losses, Australia won seven games in a row to win the cup.

In 2023, the captain of Australia produced several outstanding individual performances across all forms, including a 10-wicket haul against Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test match.

As he accepted the medal, Pat Cummins thanked the team and the supporters, saying, “It’s a huge honour; it’s been a big year with lots of wonderful team success, and to get this individual honour is huge.”

Australia’s three-match Twenty20 International Series against New Zealand will now be led by Cummins and start in late February.
