Babar Azam has announced his resignation from the captaincy of Pakistan cricket teams, having written a controversial but beloved chapter in the sport.

Following Babar Azam’s departure as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team in all forms, the cricketing community, both past and present, has showered praise and words of praise on him. During his captaincy, the 29-year-old took the side to the top of the 50-over format rankings, an accomplishment that cricket fans all around the world have recognised.

Azam, who became the 2019 white-ball captain and the 2020 Test captain, has come under increasing fire in the last few months. He finally decided to resign due to the team’s poor results in the Asia Cup and the current World Cup in 2023.

On the social networking site X, previously known as Twitter, Babar’s teammate and wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan showed his respect for him by calling him “one of the greatest batsmen Pakistan has ever seen” and saying, “Kaptaaana, aap Dilo k Kaptaan ho” (Captain! (You control our hearts.)

Babar received appreciation from former Test captain Azhar Ali for his time as captain, while former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez thanked him for his contributions and wished him luck in his future pursuits. Both Sohail Tanveer and former spinner Saeed Ajmal expressed gratitude for Babar’s achievements, with Ajmal mentioning in particular how Babar helped Pakistan’s ODI squad to the top ranking.

Despite his youth, Babar had a distinguished career that included dominating the rankings as the top-ranked ODI hitter for more than two years. As the only hitter to finish in the top three in every format, he had a special distinction. Reflecting on his achievements, Babar attributed reaching the No. 1 spot in white-ball cricket to the collective efforts of players, coaches, and management.
