The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) submitted a proposal to the National Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase the price of power by Rs3.53 per unit.
The CPPA’s appeal will be heard by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on November 29, according to sources. Under the monthly fuel adjustment, the recent rise in the price of electricity has been requested for the month of October.
The electricity users would bear an extra Rs. 40 billion in costs as a result of the NEPRA’s decision.
In a previous meeting, the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) adopted a summary stating that power division officials in grades 17 through 21 would receive a utility allowance in lieu of free electricity units.
To maintain a free power facility, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Employees Union, however, staged protests in Lahore.
Following reports from sources that the caretaker administration is thinking of terminating free power facilities for WAPDA employees, a protest demonstration was staged in Lahore.
The WAPDA Union President vowed to take “strong” action if the employees’ free energy supply was discontinued.
