In one-day international (ODI) cricket, Pakistani bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi broke yet another record on Tuesday by being the fastest player to reach 100 wickets.
The left-arm bowler reached the historic mark in an ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 match in Kolkata, India, against Bangladesh.
When Tanzid Hasan was out for a leg before wicket on the fifth ball of Shaheen’s opening over against Bangladesh, he became the bowler’s 100th victim.
He surpassed Mitchell Starc of Australia, who had taken 100 wickets in 52 games, to reach the milestone in 51 games.
In the spinning bowling category, Rashid Khan of Afghanistan needed 44 games to reach this milestone, while Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal grabbed as many wickets in just 42 games.
Shaheen has also broken Saqlain Mushtaq’s record of taking 100 wickets in 53 matches to become the fastest bowler in Pakistan to reach that milestone.
