South Asian legal specialist Fauzia Janjua has been chosen to become the first woman of Pakistani descent to hold the position of mayor in a US state.

The historic development is Janjua’s ascent to the US mayoralty—a Chakwali woman making history. Her accomplishment, which ended a 36-year Republican leadership run, filled the Pakistani community with pride.

Her victory as the US mayor demonstrates the electorate’s openness to fresh ideas as they elect a Democrat for the first time in more than 35 years.

At the Township Hall, Ms. Janjua took the oath of office while highlighting her cultural history and religious beliefs from the Holy Quran. The newly elected mayor vowed to serve the neighbourhood with integrity and zeal, with her family by her side.

The oath of office was delivered by a state representative from New Jersey, who wished her the best. She commemorated the accomplishments of both Deputy Mayor Nik Moustakas and Mayor Fauzia Janjua, indicating a new chapter in the history of the state’s leadership.

Fauzia came from a family of Pakistanis who had moved around and participated in volunteer work. In the 1970s, her father immigrated to the United States and has been there ever since. Her dedication to community service demonstrates the family history, especially in the fields of outreach to prisons and education for impoverished children.

In addition to her political duties, Ms. Janjua worked hard to promote the good parts of Muslim culture across the globe.
