Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, a senior puisne judge, has been named as the next chief justice of the Lahore High Court by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.The meeting of the judicial commissioner was presided over by Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, when his name was accepted for elevation. Naeem Akhtar Afghan, the Chief Justice of Balochistan, has also been elevated to the Supreme Court by the panel. According to reports, the parliamentary committee has been tasked with approving the names of both justices. Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, who is scheduled to retire on March 8, will be replaced by Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan.

On March 15, 1963, Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan was born in Pindi Gheb, District Attock. He graduated from Punjab University with a bachelor’s degree and from Gordon College in Rawalpindi. Later, in 1989, he graduated with his L.L.B. from University Law College at Punjab University in Lahore. In 1990, he registered as an advocate and began working in Rawalpindi. In 1993, he registered as a High Court Advocate. Later, in 2004, he was admitted as an advocate to the Pakistani Supreme Court.
Over the course of her roughly twenty-one-year career as an advocate, the Honorable Judge has taken on a significant number of cases in contest. The Honorable Judge actively participated in bar elections and was chosen in 2004 to serve as the High Court Bar Association of Rawalpindi’s Secretary General. In 2009, he was chosen to serve as president of the Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association. On May 12, 2011, his lordship was raised to the position of Additional Judge of the Lahore High Court, Lahore, and on May 11, 2013, it was confirmed.
