After all parties failed to achieve the necessary number of seats in the general elections held on February 8 to secure a majority in the National Assembly, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and other political leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) are creating a coalition government.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Asif Ali Zardari to be president, and the incoming cabinet is made up of familiar names.
Following the meeting of the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC), leaders struck an agreement with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to get the positions of provincial governors and chairman of the Senate.
Mr. Zardari will be serving his second term as Pakistan’s president. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2013, he presided over Pakistan as its eleventh president.
Asif Zardari, a well-known landowner from Sindh and the late prime minister of Pakistan, held the positions of chairman of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Council and federal investment minister.
A coalition government is set to be formed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League (PML), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).
Leaders of the aforementioned political parties convened at Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain’s home on Tuesday to deliberate on tactics for governing, and this conclusion was reached.
