The Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported on Wednesday that tickets for the major World Cup match between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Oct. 14 were sold out within an hour of the ticketing partner of the International Cricket Council opening its exclusive pre-sale window.
While there will be another round of general sales for the match between India and Pakistan on September 3, it’s possible that all tickets could sell out in a matter of hours, just like it did on Tuesday for all Mastercard holders.
The number of tickets made available online during the pre-sale period for all India matches and the warm-up games could not be confirmed, but it has been heard that within an hour of the sales beginning at 6:00 p.m. (IST), all tickets for the day had been sold out.
The Pakistan game had a “Sold Out” caption on the website “Book My Show,” the ICC’s ticketing partner, but not the other eight India games.
According to a Board of Control for Cricket India source with knowledge of the development, “Today it was only for those who owned a Mastercard (credit or debit, Indian and international),” PTI reported on the condition of anonymity. “Only two tickets were allowed per person, and naturally, fans purchased all of the tickets that went on pre-sale within an hour.
However, a second round is anticipated to take place on September 3. The Narendra Modi Stadium can hold 132,000 spectators, so a respectable number of tickets should go on sale on September 3.
For all-India games, including the semifinal and championship game, the ICC only permits two tickets per person to be purchased; however, for non-India games, a person may purchase up to four tickets.
