Today marks the start of the action-packed ICC Cricket Men’s World Cup 2023, when ten teams will compete for a huge financial reward and the CWC 23 trophy.
A total of 48 matches will be contested starting on October 5, 2023, and the action will last until November 19 in 10 locations in India. When England and New Zealand squared off in India’s largest cricket stadium four years ago, the eagerly awaited match picked up where it left off.
England defeated Bangladesh in a warm-up game before taking on the Kiwis, while the initial match against the Men in Blue was postponed due to all-day downpours.
On the other side, New Zealand enters the main event with injury concerns as its captain, Kane Williamson, is expected to sit out today’s game as a precaution.
Despite injury concerns, New Zealand’s players are in fine condition, as the team won both of its exhibition games and is seeking to build on that success against England to win their first World Cup.
The starting lineups for the Kiwis and Three Lions have mostly remained the same from the previous World Cup. Jos Buttler took Eoin Morgan’s spot, and Tom Latham is now the team’s captain as Williamson recovers from an injury.
