The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a novel programme called “Blue Residency,” which grants a 10-year visa to persons who have exhibited remarkable dedication to environmental preservation and sustainability endeavours.
Advocates of environmental action, such as representatives of international organisations, the winners of international environmental prizes, and eminent activists and scholars in the field of environmental activity, will be eligible to apply for a Blue Residency visa under this programme.
Candidates who are interested may apply through the Federal Authority for Citizenship, Customs, Port Security, and Identity. Furthermore, those who fit the requirements might be nominated by the appropriate authorities for this type of long-term residency.
In a recent Cabinet meeting, the significance of harmonising economic and environmental sustainability was underscored by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed emphasised how important environmental stewardship is to determining how the UAE’s economy and society develop in the future.
The UAE has made a larger commitment to promoting sustainability, and the Blue Residency programme is one aspect of that effort. 2024 has been declared the “Year of Sustainability.” The nation’s continued efforts to solve environmental issues and encourage eco-friendly behaviours are strengthened by this project.
The UAE has launched a number of visa programmemes in an effort to draw in talent and capital, such as the Golden Visa programme, which was unveiled in 2019 and grants 10-year residence to innovators in the fields of science, business, investment, and humanitarianism. Furthermore, the nation introduced the Green Visa Programme, which grants qualified workers, independent contractors, investors, and business owners a five-year residence.
