Novak Djokovic has been disqualified from the US Open on Sunday after he had accidentally hit a female line judge with a ball in frustration during his last-16 match.
He was looking the other way when he pulled the ball from his pocket and accidently threw it in the judge’s direction, the ball ended up hitting her on her throat.
When he was told about his disqualification, he didn’t take the news well.
He told the referee: “She doesn’t have to go to the hospital for this, you’re going to choose a default in this situation? My career, grand slam, centre stage. If she would have gotten up right away… You have a game penalty, set penalty, many options”
The world number pleaded the US open officials to save his tournament after the incident but it was of no use.
He refused to speak to the press after this and immediately left in his car.
