Vice Admiral Naveed Ashraf is named as the new naval commander in Pakistan.

Vice Admiral Naveed Ashraf has been elevated to the rank of Admiral by the interim administration, according to a statement from the Pakistan Navy on Tuesday.

On October 7, a ceremony called “Change of Command” will officially hand over command of the Pakistan Navy to Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, the departing CNS.

Among Pakistan Navy officers with three stars, Naveed Ashraf was considered to be the most senior.

As Vice President of the National Defence University, Commander Pakistan Fleet, Naval Secretary, and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters, Ashraf has had a successful career.

In 1989, he received a commission in the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch. He held a number of prestigious positions in the Navy, including commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy and commander of the 18 and 25 destroyer squadrons of the PN Fleet. He also served as commanding officer of the PNS ALAMGIR, PNS SHAHJAHAN, PNS TIPPU SULTAN, PNS MUJAHID, and PNS LARKANA.

The staff appointments include Chief Staff Officer to Commander Combined Task Force-151 HQ NAVCENT Bahrain, Chief Staff Officer to Commander Fleet Operations Officer at HQ Commander Pakistan Fleet, Captain Training at HQ Flag Officer Sea Training, Deputy President National Defence University at Islamabad, Principal Secretary to Chief of Staff Officer, Director Maritime Affairs and Environmental Control, Director General C4I, Naval Secretary, and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Admin) at Naval Headq

Graduates of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, the National Defence University in Islamabad, the US Naval Staff College, and the UK’s Royal College of Defence Studies include Naveed Ashraf.

The flag officer has received the Tamgha-e-Basalat and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (military) awards in appreciation of his excellent services.
