Whatsapp users have been looking forward to whatsapp having an option for audio and video call from desktop for a long time now. For now, if someone is using whatsapp from their desktop they can only perform the functions of sharing messages and media and can not call each other from there.
This might change soon as whatsapp is planning on adding the call option to the desktop version as well. Currently they have added this feature for some beta users. On desktop this option will appear for them on the top right corner with the search option. For now it is necessary that the user’s smartphone must be connected to the internet so that the call can be conducted on desktop.
Currently its not confirmed whether the desktop audio and video calls will support a third party microphone and camera too.
Whatsapp has been planning for so long to launch this feature for its users but couldn’t until now. The plan also included launching a separate application for the purpose so that it is not dependent on the users smartphone being connected necessarily to the internet. Everything will be made clear only when the feature rolls out for the general users.
